Diversifying Media is our main goal at Wys Medias. Studies have indicated for some time that the world is becoming increasingly multicultural, and that old monocultural values (like the ‘melting pot’ theory) will diminish significantly in the next few years. However, media across the world has yet to properly reflect a multicultural planet, and platforms that produce stock photos and videos for media, and even Ai generators, still focus on satisfying the needs of fair-skinned individuals.

As content creators, we understand how difficult and time consuming it can be at times to develop the perfect visuals (i.e. b-roll) for our projects that communicate the intended message accurately. Its known that content creators of darker skin tones will undoubtedly exert at least three times, if not more, of their effort searching for and developing culturally accurate content for their creations, and still may only have mediocre representations due to stock limitations.

The subconscious mind stores the concept of who we are as individuals and is responsible for about 80% of everything we do, say, and think. Media has been outspokenly and historically used as a method to influence decision-making of the masses through propaganda and hidden subliminal messaging. Can you imagine what behavioral and subconscious effects that consumption of primarily fair-skinned media has on culturally diverse and dark-skinned people? Children? Updating media to represent who we are in reality is detrimental to the overall health of our world, and explicitly for the next generations. At Wys Medias, we believe that by equipping media platforms and Ai generators with more diverse images, we are serving to eradicate the harmful effects media has on promoting discrimination and bias in our every day lives.
